07-16-08 - Range Rover Receives J.D. Power Award

Range Rover receives Large Premium Multi-Activity Vehicle Segment award in the 2008 J.D. Power and Associates Apeal study

Irvine, California - June 26, 2008

Land Rover North America is proud to announce the Range Rover is the recipient of the Large Premium Multi Activity Vehicle (MAV) Segment award in the 2008 J.D. Power and Associates APEAL StudySM.  In its thirteenth year, the study measures owner delight with the design, content, layout and performance of their new vehicles.

“We are pleased with the consumer excitement over the design and performance of the Range Rover and are honored to receive recognition from J.D. Power and Associates," comments Chris Marchand, executive vice president, marketing and sales, Land Rover North America.  "This award is a demonstration of Land Rover's commitment to providing our customers with appealing user friendly technology in our vehicles."

The 2008 APEAL Study is measured by 10 performance categories and is based upon survey responses of approximately 81,500 purchasers or lessees of new 2008 model year vehicles surveyed after the first 90 days of service.  Range Rover topped its segment to receive the Large Premium MAV Segment award, while Land Rover ranked 10th of 36 nameplates in the overall study.

07-16-08 - LRX Named Concept Truck of the Year

Irvine, California – June 25, 2008

The South East Automotive Media Organization (SEAMO) selected the Land Rover LRX as the 2008 North American Concept Truck of the Year. The seventh annual North American Concept Vehicle of the Year Awards was held last evening at the Automotive Hall of Fame in Dearborn, Mich.

LRX was selected by a jury of professional automotive journalists from throughout North America, judging the vehicle on specific context of the North American market. The review of each vehicle is based on the entire package, with criteria dependent on design, style, materials, technology, market viability and market responsiveness.

"The LRX Concept is a glimpse into the future for Land Rover," said Chris Marchand, executive vice president, marketing and sales, Land Rover North America. "New technology, environmental awareness and outstanding design are key elements in the success of the next generation of SUV's.  To have the media bestow this great honor on the LRX Concept is a testament to the Land Rover team that participated in creating this vehicle."

With the ever-evolving truck and SUV market in North America, new and innovative designs are introduced quite frequently, however LRX stood out. Stylish looks and new technology – the focus of LRX – helped Land Rover win its first award in this category.

Designed to meet the increasing demand for more fuel efficient vehicles in North America, LRX is the first of its kind; a turbo diesel hybrid vehicle, capable of running on bio-diesel, with the ability to go over 50 miles per gallon. The three-door LRX, is both more compact and lighter than the typical Land Rover. It focuses on new sustainability technologies, and has been recognized for addressing the needs of a changing world.

LRX also introduced new Land Rover features such as the integrated Electric Rear Axle Drive (ERAD) and the new ‘ECO’ mode. The ERAD function allows LRX to have full off-road capabilities while using the electric drive function at low speeds, while the ‘ECO’ mode is meant for on-road use. The ‘ECO’ mode configures all the integrated elements of the vehicle’s system for optimized fuel economy.

Retaining functions that Land Rovers are known for, LRX is fitted with Land Rover’s Hill Descent Control along with acclaimed and the user-friendly Terrain Response system that optimizes the vehicle for the terrain ahead. On LRX, the Terrain Response has five modes, including the aforementioned efficiency-focused ‘Eco’ mode in addition to the existing modes: sport, Sand and ‘Grass/Gravel/Snow’ (a single program for slippery surfaces).

Land Rover designers took great care in creating the interior of the vehicle, not just for aesthetics, but also to help reduce the weight of the vehicle. The glass for the side windows and roof was replaced with polycarbonate, which is around 40 percent lighter than traditional glass. The polycarbonate also blocks virtually all UV light (protecting interior materials from fading), while special nano-technology within the material reduces infra-red transmission, helping to keep the interior cool.

Even the choice of premium-quality trim materials reflects Land Rover’s deep thinking about sustainability, with vegetable-tanned leather (chromium-free – for easier recycling), extensive use of aluminum (both lightweight and readily recyclable) and carpeting made of felt from sustainable sources. And the luxurious, vanilla-colored ‘fine suede’ on the door inserts and headliner is a 100% recycled material made from used plastic bottles and fibers.

It is with these new technologies and innovative ideas that LRX was able to capture the attention of the SEAMO judges. The award is a testament to how LRX was well received not only in the public’s eye, but also in the eye of the media. LRX makes a statement – Land Rover is ready to move forward with the ever-changing consumer demands and will continue to do so for years to come.

07-11-08 - Land Rover and Nevada Commission on Tourism Join Forces to Present One-of-a-Kind G4 Challenge Nevada Passage

CARSON CITY, Nev. - Land Rover North America and the Nevada Commission on Tourism announced today that this year's Nevada Passage will serve as the national selection event for the 2008/2009 Land Rover G4 Challenge.

Twenty athletes from around the nation will travel throughout Nevada competing in driving and outdoor adventure activities designed to test teamwork and skills such as 4x4 driving, navigating, trail running, mountain biking and kayaking. The top two two-person teams from the national competition advance to the international selection event in early 2009, where one team will be selected to represent the United States in the final challenge in Asia.

"When we launched the Nevada Passage in 2005, our goal was to further establish Nevada as an outdoor hotspot," Lt. Gov. Brian Krolicki, Nevada Commission on Tourism chair, said. "Land Rover, a brand renowned for outdoors and adventure, has selected Nevada as the nation's lone location for this prolific, global competition, further establishing this premier destination for adventurers, explorers and outdoors enthusiasts."

Recognized as the one of the world's top off-road driving and adventure events, the Land Rover G4 Challenge is held every two years with national selection events taking place in 18 countries around the world. This year marks only the second time the United States has participated in the global competition since the inaugural event in 2003. The new Land Rover G4 Challenge Nevada Passage will take place in May 2008.

For the first time in the event's history, the Land Rover G4 Challenge will raise funds for two world-class charity organizations:  the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. The competition will culminate with the donation of a Land Rover on behalf of the winning team to their country's national Red Cross or Red Crescent Society.

"Land Rover's brand is synonymous with history and adventure, so it's truly fitting for us to participate in the challenge," Chris Marchand, executive vice president of marketing and sales for Land Rover North America, said. "We saw the Nevada Passage and Nevada's array of adventure sports activities and driving terrains as the most desirable location for this exciting landmark competition."

The Nevada Passage, first held in 2005, is the Nevada Commission on Tourism's one-of-kind, annual made-for-TV event that is designed to highlight Nevada's unique topography and showcase the vast array of adventure sports opportunities found throughout the state.

"We're looking forward to taking the fourth Nevada Passage TV program to the next level and making it the national setting for this global event," Tim Maland, director of the Nevada Commission on Tourism, said. "To partner with such a highly visible and respected brand as Land Rover will provide us with a greater platform to showcase our state's incredible outdoor recreation opportunities."

The competition is syndicated on national networks throughout the country and the hour-long show is seen by more than 2 million viewers each year. Past competitions have included events such as back-country skiing in the Sierra Nevada mountains, sand boarding near Fallon, kayaking on the Truckee River in downtown Reno and rock climbing in Red Rock Canyon, just outside of Las Vegas.
